Oleg Znarok has been appointed head coach of Ak Bars, the press service of the Kazan team reports.

The agreement with the specialist is for one year. Znarka’s assistants will be Yuri Babenko and Alexander Boykov. Alexander Agopeev will continue to work as a goalkeeping coach, Denis Korotyshev has been appointed physical training coach.

– The entire coaching staff understands why we were invited to Ak Bars. The expectations of the fans are the highest, the goals of the club are clear. I’m sure everyone in our dressing room wants to win. The task of the coaches is to create a good team in a short time that will fight for the Cup, the press service of the team quoted Znark as saying.

Marat Valiullin, general manager of Kazan, noted that the new coaching staff can realize the full potential of the squad.

— Oleg Znarok is one of the most successful KHL coaches, the strongest specialist with vast experience in top clubs. We see the great desire of the coach to achieve high results again and believe that our cooperation will be productive. We believe that the new coaching staff will be able to realize the full potential of our team to fulfill the main task, – Valiullin added.

Ak Bars became the fifth KHL club in the career of the three-time winner of the Gagarin Znarka Cup. Previously, he led the HC MVD, Dynamo Moscow, SKA and Spartak. He also led the national teams of Latvia and Russia.

Storm hockey club announced its decision to suspend participation in the Ukrainian Championship. The Odessa team had not come to the Krizhinka match before.

At the same time, Storm denied that the issue was related to financial problems and expressed distrust of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation.

Statement from HC Storm

“Due to systematic violation of the principles of equality and justice in competitions, Shtor hockey club expressed its distrust in the leadership of the Ukrainian Hockey Federation and decided to suspend its participation in the Ukrainian Championship.”

There was already a situation this season when Krizhinka suspended its participation in the championship due to referee problems.
