World champion Zuev believes that goalkeeper Fedotov will never forget how to play hockey in a year in the army

Ice hockey world champion Andrey Zuev believes that the goalkeeper of the Russian national team Ivan Fedotov will not lose his sports skills during his military service.

In July, Fedotov was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service, the hockey player was taken to Severodvinsk. As it became known to Match TV, the 25-year-old goalkeeper will remain in the city in the training unit until the oath is taken. He is expected to take the oath on 13 August.

– What do you think about the situation with Fedotov?

“Of course it shouldn’t have happened that way. There is both his fault and the agent who is responsible for the player and receives money for it. I served in the army – I was in the unit for three weeks, and then I played in the Sverdlovsk SKA. I would like Fedotov to play a year in CSKA, and then calmly leave for the NHL.

I remember when Ivan first appeared in Traktor. He immediately said that he would come out on the first roles. Good physical data and reaction, they began to trust him – experience appeared. He does not make unnecessary movements, he works purely on the puck, he combines the new and old goalkeeping schools, ”RB Sport” quotes Zuev as saying.

– If Fedotov misses a year of his career in the army, will it be a problem for him?

– I don’t think. It happens that people miss a year due to injury, and then come back. He’ll be training anyway. He has a reserve – by age, by fitness. At first it will be hard to get used to the speed, but I don’t think that Fedotov will forget how to play hockey in a year.

Fedotov is the silver medalist of the 2022 Olympics, the winner of the Gagarin Cup with CSKA. In May, the goalkeeper signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers NHL club.
