Former Vancouver and Spartak forward Jake Virtanen was acquitted in the Supreme Court of British Columbia in a sexual assault case. Sportsnet reports.
In 2017, Virtanen met a girl named Colleen Elden. In the same year, she came to Vancouver to meet with her family and invited Virtanen to meet. The hockey player took her to a hotel room, where, according to Elden, he began to persuade her to have sexual intercourse, and later raped her.
Virtanen himself stated in court that the contact occurred with the consent of the girl.
Virtanen was selected by Vancouver with the 6th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. In 317 regular NHL games, he scored 100 points (55 + 45). From September 2021 to March 2022, the hockey player played for Spartak Moscow.
