Ovechkin was included in the four greatest athletes in the history of Washington
Portal The Sporting News has compiled the four greatest athletes in the history of the city of Washington. The list includes the captain of the hockey club “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin.
The publication also noted American football player Darrell Green, basketball player Wes Unseld and baseball player Walter Johnson.
The list of players was compiled as part of the SN Rushmore project to identify the four greatest athletes in the history of 13 American cities that are home to at least one club from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, WNBA leagues.
In the 2021/22 season, Alexander Ovechkin played 83 games for Washington, scoring 51 goals and providing 45 assists. He became the club’s top scorer and sniper.
Washington was eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup, losing to Florida in the series 2-4.
