Russian striker Nikolai Zherdev in an interview with “Championship”Commented on the decision of Dynamo Minsk not to sign a contract with him.
The hockey player was in the team on a viewing contract, but a full agreement was not concluded with him. As a result, Zherdev became a player of the Minsk “Youth”.
— I want to say thank you to Dynamo Minsk, which invited me to a viewing contract. This is a good team, a worthy and combat-ready team has been assembled in the capital of Belarus. It was a pleasure to work there. But I didn’t get a full-fledged contract, and then I got a new option.
Apparently, today the coaching staff and management had their own views on the development of the situation. Therefore, I did not go to the pre-season tournament in Sochi, although I originally planned. Craig Woodcroft (Dynamo head coach – Ed.) and I had a good talk, there was communication and contact with him all the time. We had a fruitful conversation before they announced to me that I would not fly to Sochi (for the pre-season tournament). Of course, I tried to contribute and help the local youth,” Zherdev said.
The last time Zherdev played in the KHL for Neftekhimik and Dynamo Riga was in the 2017/18 season. In total, the forward played 408 matches in the league, in which he scored 232 (79 + 153) points. Previously, the striker’s clubs were also Atlant, Ak Bars, Spartak, Severstal, Dynamo Moscow, Sochi and Torpedo.
Zherdev, 37, is a two-time world champion with the Russian national team.
