Sochi forward Dmitry Zavgorodniy said that in his hockey career there was not a single fight on the ice.
“There were no fights at all. On the ice, he did other things: he gave assists, scored goals, tried to create chances and be creative. He fought, probably, only for children, everyone had skirmishes there. When I switched to professional hockey, everything was over. You need to think with your head, you can run into a tough guy and get injured.
If I have to fight, I’m ready. Of course, I have slightly different tasks on the ice, other goals, but if anything, I can stand up for myself and the team,” Zavgorodniy said in an interview with Sport24.
Zavgorodniy began his career with the Omsk Hawks, then played in Canada for the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) team “Rimuski”, St. Petersburg SKA, the American Hockey League (AHL) club “Stockton Heat”. In June, the 21-year-old hockey player signed a contract with Sochi.
Earlier, the match between Sochi and Avangard at the Sochi Hockey Open pre-season tournament began with a mass brawl of hockey players, which caused a lot of criticism of the southerners.
