The hockey player hit the opponent’s face with the blade. That’s not what men do!
The brawl on the ice turned into a huge scandal for the entire league. A dirty blow was appreciated by the police.
We are used to the fact that fighting is an integral part of hockey. Regularly in this sport, players use their fists to explain to their opponents that they are wrong. Usually brawls end for offenders with a removal until the end of the game. In rare cases, hockey players receive a suspension for several championship matches.
But a fight in a Canadian hockey match could land one of the players in the dock. He decided to use a very dirty trick against his opponent.
That’s not what men do!
Revenge with a blow to the back of the head with a skate
While the best hockey leagues are just about to resume the championships, and clubs and hockey players are conducting pre-season training, amateur leagues are getting their portion of attention. So in Russia, hockey was actively covered in the three-on-three format. In Canada, many hockey fans not only follow the exchanges of players in the NHL, but also get on skates themselves.
One of the most popular amateur championships in North America is the Senior Safe Hockey League (ASHL). She regularly organizes tournaments for 65,000 men and women. The league only operates in the Canadian province of British Columbia.
There was an incident in this league last week. During the match between the Hotshots and Grizznaty teams, which took place in the city of Burnaby, there was a skirmish between the players. After receiving a power reception, one of the Hotshots hockey players began to push the opponent. At first, the skirmish was extinguished, but it received a tough continuation.
When the players stood on the face-off point, the passions on the ice flared up with renewed vigor. Both parties to the conflict started a fight. As a result of a short struggle, they ended up on the ice. After that, the fighting players began to be pulled apart, but the insult so deeply settled in the head of the Grizznaty team member that even in this position he wanted to take revenge on the instigator of the brawl. He could not do it with his hands, because at that moment the judge was pulling him by the sweater. The hockey player put his skates into play, knowing full well that the opponent was not wearing a helmet.
As a result, one of the kicks damaged the Hotshots player’s head. The blade of the skate hit the back of his head exactly. From the harm caused, the hockey player began to fall onto the ice, but even then his opponent did not stop, but poked his skate blade in the side. As a result of this fight, the victim had to be assisted right on the ice.
The blow was assessed by the police
For his offense, the perpetrator immediately went to the locker room, receiving a match penalty. The ASHL also reacted harshly to what happened during the match at Burnaby. A statement soon appeared on the official website of the league, which spoke of sanctions against the player by the organization.
– Behavior on the ice, captured on video, in no way corresponds to the values of our league and the rules of the game. As a result of the incident, the violating player received a match penalty, as well as removal to the locker room. Subsequently, the perpetrator was suspended indefinitely, and he will also receive additional punishment in accordance with the rules of the league.
We strive to create the safest possible environment for our players. While we acknowledge that it may not be possible to completely prevent such incidents, we will continue to ensure that such incidents are treated with the utmost respect, including the possibility of a player being banned from the league for life. ASHL statement.
But the problems of an inadequate hockey player did not end there. Shortly after the incident, the local police became interested in the player’s actions. The suspect is currently under investigation.
— During the incident, the victim was allegedly beaten by another player, resulting in injuries that required medical attention — commented Corporal Michael Kalange added that he was looking into the video for any wrongdoing.
Now a rash act of a hockey player can deprive him of his favorite pastime for many years. It is unlikely that even in a country like Canada, where hockey is played from the cradle, there is an ice rink in places not so remote.
