Avangard newcomer Broadhurst: “Finnish is much worse than Russian”

American rookie Avangard Alex Broadhurst compared the Continental Hockey League (KHL) with the Finnish league, and the Russian language with Finnish.

The last two seasons, 29-year-old Broadhurst spent in the Finnish HIFK. His contract with Avangard is for one season.

– The KHL is stronger than the Finnish League, the skill is higher. I’ve only played one match so far, so I’m still getting used to it. But there are a lot of good players here, it’s not easy to play in this league. I know that this year the number of matches has been increased to 68, the calendar is heavy, like in the NHL. But I’m happy with the new challenge, I hope I’ll have a good season.

So far I know only one word in Russian – “thank you”. I try to learn words every day, the guys help. After Finnish, Russian is not so difficult? Oh my God! Russian doesn’t even come close, Finnish is much worse. Crazy language, some words and letters are simply baffling. I tried to learn as many words as possible, but I could only say hello, good morning, thank you, just the simplest things. Very difficult language, – quotes the words of Broadhurst “Championship”.
