Two-time Olympic champion Vyacheslav Fetisov spoke about the decision of the SKA striker Mikhail Vorobyov to plead guilty in court in the case of giving a bribe.
In July, it became known that three Russian hockey players were caught trying to give a bribe for exemption from conscription into the army, the materials of criminal cases were recorded by the Leninsky District Court of Ufa. The court received materials from criminal cases under Part 4 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (giving a bribe) against Vorobyov, Anvar Suleimanov and the forward of Admiral Vladislav Lukin. Part 4 of Article 291 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation provides for from 7 to 12 years in prison.
Are you surprised he pleaded guilty? The man broke the law. I’m more surprised that the system doesn’t work. The guys must one way or another – in accordance with the law – serve or enter a university where there is a military department. I don’t see any problems. The system crashed again.
There can be no excuse. In many European countries, athletes understand that they have an obligation not to break the law. I think that our sports leadership did not foresee these problems, ”Championship” quotes Fetisov.
Vorobyov, 25, has been playing for SKA since 2021. Last season, he played 57 matches for the St. Petersburg club and scored 27 points (7+20) with an efficiency indicator of +19.
Earlier, ex-CSKA goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service, and the hockey player was taken to Severodvinsk. As it became known to Match TV, the 25-year-old goalkeeper will remain in the city in the training unit until the oath is taken. He is expected to take the oath on 13 August.
