An authoritative journalist assessed Nichushkin’s prospects in the new season after signing a “monstrous contract”

The Athletic journalist Peter Bauf hopes that the Russian striker of the Colorado Valery Nichushkin will find a way to continue to improve his results in the new season.

Colorado won the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001 in the 2021-22 season. Nichushkin scored 9 goals and gave 6 assists in the NHL playoffs. Now the player is recovering from an injury received in the final against Tampa Bay.

– Estimate for last season Nikushkin. Valery’s breakthrough earned him a monstrous off-season contract. He has established himself not only as an elite defensive player, but also as a person who can play first-class in attack and excel in the same performance. His pressing power and ability to move well make him an ideal candidate for the Bednar system. Nichushkin was at ease in the playoffs, rightfully finishing third on the team with nine goals and occasionally playing on the top line.

About the new season. Teammates are often enamored with Nichushkin’s work ethic, so it’s safe to say he won’t rest on his laurels after receiving a high salary. But can he replicate his career-best offensive numbers? Can he find a way to keep improving his performance? The second would be ideal for the team. He is only 27 years old, so this is not excluded, — quotes Baufa The Athletic.

In the summer Nichushkin signed a new contract with the Colorado for eight years with an annual salary of 6.125 million dollars. The day before, the hockey player admitted that he had begun recovery from a broken foot and had his first training session.
