“I don’t see the guilty, there was an accident” – the father of a young hockey player who died in St. Petersburg

The father of the deceased 14-year-old hockey player of the SKA system told Gazeta.ru that he did not blame anyone for the death of his son in training.

According to preliminary information, on August 11, during one of the exercises, after a defender clicked, the puck hit the player in the chest in the region of the heart. The team doctor immediately assisted the hockey player and called an ambulance, which carried out all resuscitation measures. The hockey player’s heart was able to start, he was taken to the hospital, but it was not possible to save the boy’s life.

“I don’t see anyone to blame for this, I don’t think it makes any sense to blame someone. It was purely an accident. It was a regular training, they were playing a minority: the five attacked, the four defended. There was a throw, a click from the defender from the blue line, as I was told, I was not present, as parents are not allowed to train. The puck hit the region of the heart, and cardiac arrest occurred. Then there was resuscitation, but, unfortunately, to no avail,” he said.

The man added that representatives of the SKA youth hockey school contacted him and promised to help the family with organizing the funeral.

– The director of the hockey club, Anatoly Mikhailovich Yankevich, already called me, he said that he would provide any assistance: financial and so on, assistance in organizing the funeral, – said the father.

The Investigation Department for the Petrogradsky District of the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for St. Petersburg opened a criminal case into the death of a hockey player. Law enforcement officers will find out all the circumstances of the incident.
