Levski Sofia will play AEK Athens at the National Stadium of Sofia on August 18 in a venue change for their Champions League playoff. UEFA announced that the first leg of the tie will move away from Levski's regular home ground to decide who qualifies for the League Phase.
The match was originally scheduled for the Georgi Asparuhov stadium, which has a capacity of 17,700 spectators. UEFA confirmed the fixture will instead take place at the 43,230 capacity National Stadium Vasil Levski, the ground where CSKA 1948 previously played Panathinaikos.
Increased venue capacity for supporters
The move allows Levski Sofia to host more than 40,000 fans for the opening match. Club supporters will have the opportunity to attend the game in far larger numbers than their home stadium permits.
The return leg between the two teams is scheduled to take place at Allwyn Arena on August 26.
