Former Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a two-year contract with Turkish side Trabzonspor after completing a medical. Trabzonspor President Ertugrul Dogan participated in the formal contract signing following the conclusion of negotiations.

The Turkish club confirmed the details of the contract on a public disclosure platform after completing the deal. Trabzonspor stated that Salah will receive a total guaranteed payment of €17,000,000 (£14.5m) per season, comprising an annual salary of €10,000,000 (£8.5m) and a signing fee of €7,000,000 (£6m).

Under the terms of the agreement, Salah will also receive performance-based bonuses for each season. An image rights agreement gives the player a 20 per cent share of revenue from products sold by the club's retail company specific to Mohamed Salah. An agency fee amounting to five per cent of the player's gross remuneration will also be paid.

Salah had been given a hero's welcome after arriving at Trabzon Airport on Wednesday night

Supporter greeting in Istanbul and Trabzon

Trabzonspor supporters welcomed Salah at Ataturk Airport in Istanbul on Wednesday night after he landed from the Greek island of Mykonos, where he had been on holiday. He was pictured wearing a Trabzonspor shirt upon arrival in Turkey.

Salah then travelled on to Trabzon, where another crowd of supporters massed at Trabzon Airport. Around 25,000 fans gathered during his arrival in Turkey.

"I am very happy to be in this incredible atmosphere. I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before," Salah said. "There are 25,000 people here, it's incredible. I've never seen anything like it. I have achieved success everywhere I've been, and I want to achieve success at Trabzonspor as well."

Salah has now formally completed his move to the Turkish side after leaving Liverpool

An official signing ceremony has been scheduled at Trabzonspor's Papara Park stadium on Thursday evening. The club invited supporters to wear their new season kit to witness history at the event.

Transfer talks and departure from Liverpool

Turkish club Besiktas had previously held negotiations with Salah, but talks stalled last week. Trabzonspor secured the signing despite prior expectations that Saudi Arabia would be his destination after Al-Ittihad submitted a £150million bid in summer 2023.

Salah announced in March that he would leave Liverpool one year into his two-year contract extension. He fell out with former Liverpool manager Arne Slot last season, despite being the star performer when Slot's side won the Premier League title in the manager's first season.

Liverpool career stats and potential replacement

Salah is the third-highest goalscorer in Liverpool history with 255 goals. He did not hold talks with interested teams before the end of the season out of respect to the Merseyside club, while his agent Ramy Abbas maintained during the World Cup in the US that nothing had been decided.

Negotiations accelerated after Salah returned from the World Cup. Known for his professionalism, Salah backs himself to maintain a high level deep into his thirties. He won two English titles at Liverpool and was named PFA Players' Player of the Year three times, though his tally dropped to ten goals last season after scoring 34 during the 2024-25 title win.

Trabzonspor finished third in the Turkish league last season behind Fenerbahce and champions Galatasaray. Liverpool have yet to sign a replacement for Salah, though 23-year-old Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola remains linked. Valued at £145million by PSG, Barcola plays on the left, and former defender Jamie Carragher recently warned Liverpool against buying him to replace Salah.
