Kyriakos Mitsotakis drove in the EKO Rally Acropolis Hyperspecial

Kyriakos Mitsotakis got a taste of the EKO Rally Acropolis Hyperspecial on Wednesday 7th September at the Athens Olympic Stadium. The Prime Minister drove M-Sport Poland’s Ford Fiesta Rally3 around the 1.95km circuit before climbing into the passenger basket of a GR Yaris to be quickly whisked away by Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT race director Jari Marie Latvala around the course of the EKO will be Super Special Stage in OAKA.

“Driving the race car is an incredible experience,” said Kyriakos Mitsotakis. “I had never done that before. I think it’s an indication of how demanding this particular sport is.”

Stressing the importance of having the Greek race in the WRC, the Prime Minister also referred to the location of the super special: “This stadium is linked to the Olympics and we want to make sure it is used in the best possible way, so the fact that we have such events here, apart from football games for example, that’s really impressive”.

The gates of OAKA will open to the public this Thursday from 4:30pm, much earlier than the scheduled start of the EKO Rally Acropolis 2022 and the running of the Super Special.

In detail, the program of the day is as follows:

• At 4:30 p.m., route reconnaissance for the 3rd crew group begins. It’s worth noting that crews write their notes either on foot or by scooter.
• At 17:00 the e-Sports WRC World Final will take place in OAKA’s Kasimatis Hall – for the second year in a row in Greece. This is the virtual WRC championship, which, among other things, creates even more perspectives for motorsport in order to get closer to young people who have developed close contact with esports.
• At 18:30, the best rally drivers in the world, as well as drivers of all categories participating in the EKO Rally Acropolis, will meet sports fans at the Rally Village of OAKA (near the stadium, by the side of L. Irini). to give autographs.
• At 6:30 p.m., OAKA is “infused” with the sounds of Athens DeeJay 95.2, with Michalis Tsausopoulos on decks taking the pulse just before the game begins.
• At 19:00 dignitaries on the circuit will ride a Ford Fiesta Rally 3 Junior WRC from M-Sport Poland.
• At 19:45, the championship’s top category drivers gather on the field for a commemorative photo in front of tens of thousands of spectators.
