The winner of the Dakar Rally, Al Atiya, “converts” electricity from it
What is the Extreme E Championship that Nasser Al Attiyah will compete in alongside Utah Kleinsmind?
This year’s Dakar Rally winner, Nasser Al Attiya, is part of the ABT Cupra XE team and will be the Spanish team’s driver duo alongside Utah Clinsmind in the electric SUV off-road championship. Al Atiya has won three more times in Dakar apart from 2022, 2011, 2015 and 2019 while Kleinsmind counts a win in the same match in 2001!
CUPRA has been participating in the Extreme E Championship since the very beginning. It was the first car brand to announce its commitment and teamed up with ABT Sportsline as the team’s main partner. The first round of this year’s championship will take place on February 19th and 20th in Neom, Saudi Arabia.
In the first season, the team finished 5th in the overall standings. For 2022, the car has not only been strengthened at the driver’s level, it has also been redesigned.
The e-CUPRA ABT XE1 is equipped with a 54kWh battery, which contributes to the optimal weight distribution of the car and enables acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in around 4”!
The new all-electric off-road racing car sets the design language for the future CUPRA Tavascan going into production. Cupra’s second 100% electric model will be designed and developed in Barcelona and will be launched in Europe and worldwide in 2024.
