ECO Rally Acropolis: safety rules for spectators

The instructions that all spectators of the EKO Rally Acropolis must follow for our own safety and for the smooth running of the race.

Safety first: That is the motto of the EKO Rally Acropolis, both for the participants and for the spectators. The organizers and the FIA have been working on the safety of the race as a whole. However, it takes everyone’s cooperation to avoid unpleasant eventualities such as the cancellation of a special route or, even worse, a possible accident.

Carefully follow the instructions in the Viewer Guide.

VIEWER GUIDE

Before traveling to any part of the race, carefully read the marked points, follow the instructions and tips and enjoy the race safely.

01. CLOSE ROADS

Special stages close 3 hours before the first race car unless otherwise stated. So be on time and park as follows:

  • In order not to block the possible passage of an ambulance (REASON FOR THE CANCELLATION OF THE SPECIAL ROUTE).
  • Over time, follow the exit so you don’t have to turn around after the race and be late.
  • Only on one side of the street and only taking up enough space to park as many cars as possible.

Caution! If deemed necessary, the organization may “close” the access road to avoid inconvenience to spectators

02. DO NOT MOVE ON THE SPECIAL COURSE 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE FIRST RACE CAR

Find your vantage point 30 minutes before the special route begins, as the road is closed to traffic afterward.

03. CHECK FOR THE GREEN LIGHT ON CARS

From 2022, cars in the premier class of the FIA World Rally Championship will have hybrid drives. This implies special precautions for spectators and teams in the event of an accident due to the high electrical voltage that can arise.

So you should always look for a green light before touching a stationary race car, as that alone indicates the car is safe.

  1. Safety lights are located on the windshield and both side pillars of the cars. After an accident, the green steady light indicates it is safe to touch the car.
  2. The “HY” symbol indicates that the car is a hybrid. From 2022, all cars in the Rally1 category will have hybrid drives.
  3. A flashing red light along with an alarm sound means the car is unsafe. No light means it is potentially unsafe. Only touch the car when the traffic light is green.

04. SAFETY FIRST

  • Follow the instructions of the Race People. They are on the special routes and for your own safety.
  • The organization has ensured that you are as close to the action as possible (but not closer). Stay safe on the special route.
  • Enjoy the game in the designated spectator zones marked with bars or ribbons. The special trip may be delayed or even canceled if spectators are found in unsafe areas.
  • Don’t leave your position before the rear car has passed the checkered flag.

05. SECURITY CHECK

Through the FIA security control systems, the race center is within 5 minutes. From passing the safety cars as well as the race cars, it receives a high-resolution image and can see whether the place you have chosen to watch the race is safe or not.

If it is determined that your safety is at risk, a decision may be made to postpone the special route – until you move to a safe place – or even cancel it.

06. MARKING OF PROHIBITED PLACES / (NO GO AREA)

  • Under no circumstances should you observe from a point on the road where there are prohibition signs.
  • Don’t sit on the outside of corners, jumps, or a combination of both. Such situations give drivers little time to correct a mistake and you to move.
  • Not only the outside of a curve is dangerous. A car can even get out of control on a straight line, and at particularly high speeds.
  • Watch the race from as high a place as possible and definitely off the road. Rocks can easily be thrown far.
  • Don’t let yourself be distracted by what’s happening on the special course. Always be on your feet, look down the street and prepare for the unexpected. Even the best drivers in the world make mistakes, and mechanical failure can happen at any time.

07. RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT

  • Under no circumstances should you start a fire. Even if you are about to light a cigarette, do so with the utmost care, just as you would when extinguishing it.
  • Garbage and recycling bins are located at various points on the special routes. Leave your rubbish there or take it with you if there is no rubbish bin nearby.
  • Forests, flora and fauna are an integral part of the ECO Rally Acropolis, but also of our country. Respect and protect them! We do not drive outside of the designated access routes.

Let’s all be proud members of a successful event.

Sportish lives the legendary EKO Acropolis Rally together with EKO, the largest Greek marketing company in its category and a main sponsor of the event and also the “EKO Super Special Stage” in OAKA.

Legendary rally champion reacted to Ferrari’s decision regarding his son

Carlos Sainz Sr., father of Carlos Sainz and two-time world rally champion, has commented on Ferrari’s decision to replace his son with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Sainz was left without a seat at Ferrari last year and later joined Williams. In 2025, the Spaniard outperformed Hamilton and achieved two podiums, while the Briton had none.

Carlos Sainz Sr. emphasized that neither he nor his son criticized Hamilton:

“It’s not our problem, it’s not Carlos’ problem. Ferrari was close to winning the constructors’ championship in 2024, but this year the team has faced difficulties. My advice, and Carlos agrees, is to focus on your work. The world is already too complex to worry about everyone. Let people draw their own conclusions,” he said.

At the same time, Sainz Sr. believes that his son can become a world champion:

“I have a lot of confidence in him and I want to believe that it is possible. I am his father and I have seen how talented he is. If he is in the right place at the right time, he can really achieve this. Everything has to match perfectly. He works and fights for it,” he added.

The rally champion also noted that success depends on the car and the team:

“Unfortunately, I don’t have a crystal ball to know how teams are preparing for radical changes in F1. It all depends on the engine and the chassis. It would be good for Williams to produce a competitive car and fight for the podium. Now they can be at the bottom, middle or top of the table and under the new rules the stronger teams have more resources.”

The 5 richest Formula 1 pilots. Schumacher is beyond competition

Formula 1 pilots’ salaries have long been record-breaking, and the championship’s leading stars regularly appear on the list of the world’s highest-paid athletes.

The current F1 squad is one of the richest in the history of the series, which is directly linked to the sharp increase in the championship’s global popularity in recent years.

But large contracts account for only a fraction of total revenue. Advertising deals, bonuses, business ventures and investments have allowed individual pilots to amass fortunes that far exceed the earnings of most of their peers. According to Racing News 365, it was these Formula 1 drivers who managed to build the largest financial empires in the history of the championship, leaving others far behind.

The richest F1 drivers in history

1) Michael Schumacher – $790 million
2) Lewis Hamilton – $304 million
3) Fernando Alonso – $264 million
4) Kimi Raikkonen – $254 million

Mercedes leader challenges Verstappen: “He’s the one I want to fight with”

Mercedes driver George Russell says he is ready to prove his ability to challenge for the Formula 1 championship and is not afraid to confront Max Verstappen directly.

The Briton had been driving for Mercedes for four seasons but joined the Brackley team just as it lost its leading position. During this time, Russell achieved five Grand Prix victories but had to watch Verstappen and Lando Norris win the titles.

On the eve of major regulatory changes in 2026, many experts see Mercedes as one of the favorites of the new technical cycle. Russell hopes this will be his chance to consistently compete at the top.

“I’m confident I can compete with the best. Max is the gold standard right now,” said Russell.

I would like to fight him head on. “This is the only pilot next to whom you can really test your level.”

After Lewis Hamilton moved to Ferrari, Russell established himself as the leader of Mercedes. The 27-year-old compares his situation to the career of Michael Schumacher, who won his first championship after working for Ferrari for five years.

“You either fight for the championship or you don’t. Nobody dreams of fighting for second place. I’m ready to take my chances and I understand that patience is required,” concluded Russell.
