Formula 1, Singapore GP: Perez retains victory despite suspension
Sergio Perez was eventually penalized for his actions during the safety car in Singapore, but that didn’t change the outcome of the race as the Mexican clung to victory.
Finally, there will be no change in the result at the Singapore Grand Prix. The matches gave their decision almost three hours after the match.
It was a treble as Ferrari wanted, but not what Scuderia wanted, with victory going to Leclerc. Specifically, the Mexican was penalized with a five-second penalty, two penalty points and a severe reprimand.
None of this changed the result as Perez finished 7.5 seconds ahead of Monegasque. According to the justification for the decision, the Monegasque did not have the distance of ten cars stipulated in the regulations between curves 13 and 14.
The marshals had made a comment to the team that the same thing had happened earlier (in the first presence of the safety car) at Turns 9 and 10, which carried over to Perez. The sports commissioners imposed a penalty of 5 seconds after a second violation.
Ferrari also wanted to impose a similar penalty on Perez for failing to clear the safety car again at the same spot on lap ten, but the Mexican apologized and race officials reprimanded him.
Of course, a reaction from Ferrari is expected.
