Aleix Espargaro has only one choice
With 75 points at stake, Aleix Espargaro has only one choice as he enters the penultimate race of the championship, 20 points ahead of leader Fabio Quartararo. Forget consistency mode and switch to attack mode. At the Australian prix, he shared a press conference with three other contenders for the title: Fabio Quartararo, Pecco Bagnaia and local Jack Miller.
“It’s not easy to attack and not make mistakes. It’s time to go into attack mode and recover points. 20 is not a lot, so you have to go all out. Now it’s not about being a constant , it’s important to attack more and take risks, because everything can still happen, so for the whole season,” Aprilia’s ‘Il Capitano’ explained.
The weekend will be complicated weather-wise, as happened in Japan and Thailand, where Aleix had a lot of difficulties: “It wasn’t bad. I was sixth or seventh, but the long lap penalties left us with a lot. It’s a shame, but I accept it and look forward to it, we’re only 20 points away from the leaders and we’re going to move forward.’ “
The 2022 Aprilia has nothing to do with the last Aprilia to set foot on Phillip Island in 2019, and that possibility is open. “I would love to try the 2022 Aprilia here. It worked really well with the braking you have to rush and how much fluid you have to drive, it was very competitive.”
“With the ground effects and the wings, the first corner and the last corner will be better. The turns will be better. This circuit is not so demanding in terms of the engine, but on the straights it gives you an advantage. We have this engine,” he added.
He affirms that Frenchman Fabio Quartararo will be stronger in this championship final. “Because he’s a world champion driver and has hitherto been able to defend the points advantage he had. But he can no longer drive self-consciously to defend that advantage.” He has no advantage and must run at the top.In my opinion, he is the highest level driver this year,” he emphasized.
On equality of classification, he emphasized: For us, who have a lot of options to win, we are three with a 20-point gap, and it will be difficult for the rest of us to reduce 40 to 75 points, but who knows what will happen in this championship.
The Aprilia rider said he was confident of a win on Sunday at Phillip Island and admitted that rain could affect the course of the race, so he said, “I hope it doesn’t rain, And I hoped it wouldn’t look like that.’It’s going to rain on Saturday and Sunday.I’m really looking forward to it. No longer conservative.
