Gasli saw a crane on the track at the last moment and remembered Bianchi
Pierre Gasly saw the crane coming in to get Saint’s car at the last moment and expressed his grievances about it, recalling what happened on the same track as Jules Bianchi.
Pierre Gasly faced an extremely difficult moment. The French Alpha Tauri driver was furious with people off the track during the red flag and he had a good reason for it.
On his return to the pit lane, Gasly suddenly saw a commercial vehicle in front of him and memories were awakened.
“What is that? A crane on the line? I drove right past it. It’s illegal. Remember what happened. I don’t believe it,” he said on the team radio.
What Gasli was referring to, of course, was the fatal accident Jules Bianchi had at the same track in 2014, falling on the back of a similar vehicle, resulting in his death in 2015 after a months-long struggle.
If we add to the above the close friendly relationship Gasli had with Bianchi, it’s easy to understand why the Frenchman was furious.
