Seven-time world champion Phil Reid has died at the age of 83. He was the first to win the title in the 125, 250 and 500cc classes.

Phil Reed has died at the age of 83. The “Prince of Speed”, as he was called, made the motorsport world poorer.

During his long career he won seven titles and was the first to have titles in the categories of in his collection 125, 250 and 500 cubic meters.

His first title came in 1964 when he won the 250cc title, which he repeated the following year. The pinnacle of his career came in 1968 when he won both the 125cc and 250cc titles on his beloved Yamaha.

Another 250cc followed in 1971 while he won the 500cc title two years in a row with MV Agusta in 1974 and 1975.

In total he competed in 152 races and was on the podium in 121 of them, while crossing the checkered flag first in 52 Grands Prix.
