Australian GP key

1. Fall of Quartararo.

The pressure was on Fabio Quartararo. After crashing in Aragon on lap one, finishing eighth in Japan and failing to score points in Thailand, he knew he had to not only put in a good result, but finish ahead of Bagnaia. and went to the race. A poor start, he made his first mistake on lap three and went straight into turn #4. Five laps later he was down at #2. His crash completely changed Bagnaia’s race strategy and the championship situation for his two remaining races.

2. Race pace.

Fear from rear tire wear really “slowed” the pilot’s ride. This allowed riders such as Rins, Marini and Bastianini, who were coming from behind, to reach the front group and allow Marquez to contest the win – see key #4.

3. End point of rinse straight.

Alex and his team were studying the corners where the rear tires needed to be ‘saved’ before the race. Turn #1 wasn’t one of them, so Rins squeezed it to the max and was able to get to Turn #2. There he was clearly better than the other turns, faster and in a better position.

4. Election of Marquez.

Putting on the soft rear tire at the last minute, against the team’s opinion, was one of the keys to his result. He also has a late race pace ‘co-op’ that helped him keep rubber until the end of the race… ‘I played it. There was no option.’

5. Bezecchi’s “Respect”.

Just like in Japan, Marco stopped again when he reached the Bagnaia Wheels, giving up a better end result. And as he declared last week, “I will run to be a factory team one day”.
