Formula 1 – Beyond the Visible: The intensive preparation of the drivers before a race
The second installment in the behind-the-scenes documentary series of Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN focuses on the drivers’ physical and mental preparation for the extreme demands of Formula 1.
Entitled ‘Relationship of Trust’, the second episode of Alfa Romeo’s documentary series ‘Beyond the Visible’ is on the air and focuses on the intense physical and mental preparation of the team’s two drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Guanyue Chow.
The goal is one: the best possible preparation in order to achieve top performance.
The preparation includes hard training, demanding tests, but also technical tests that simulate the challenges that drivers have to face in a race. A large team of professionals works with the riders on a daily basis, from specialized fitness trainers to physiotherapists and psychologists.
Above all, mental stamina is crucial for the driver to stay focused throughout the 23-race marathon. Body conditioning is also important as drivers spend time between the gym and the simulator.
Strength and endurance are just as important as maintaining the rider’s ideal weight. The training serves to optimize the human-machine relationship.
All factors that affect the performance of the drivers are taken into account, such as long journeys from track to track, jet lag, but also the stress that builds up on race days.
The trust relationship that develops between team members is the energy that leads to continuous improvement and keeps motivation at a very high level.
