Hamilton becomes a film producer after Formula 1

Lewis Hamilton has launched his film production company, Dawn Apollo Films, and plans to fully dive into it once he’s hung up his gloves – which he says won’t be “for a while”.

The seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s passion for cinema has long been known, as has the fact that he will be one of the producers of the film, which will be shot in 2023 by Brad Pitt and starring Jerry Bruckheimer in the context of the sport.

Now, however, Lewis Hamilton has detailed his cinematic plans for the future. The 38-year-old Brit founded his own film and television production company called Dawn Apollo Films with his manager Penny Towe.

As he shared with film website Deadline, Lewis’ goal is to create stories that focus on communities of people with a powerful impact that inspires their viewers. And he added that he will be fully committed to Dawn Apollo Films when he retires – which won’t be anytime soon.

“When I stop racing – which I don’t intend to do for a while as I feel like I’m still at a good level – I want the transition to be very smooth.”‘ Hamilton said. “I want to be able to move forward with my full commitment to Dawn Apollo Films and immediately rise to a similar level to what I’m used to.”

Implicitly but not explicitly, Lewis said he would not remain in F1 in any other capacity after retiring and said it was important to secure his future – given that many other athletes are struggling to find one after their racing careers have ended to find meaningful employment.

“I’ve spoken to people who have said, ‘Look, when I quit, everything fell apart, I wasn’t ready to do other things, I didn’t take the time to learn other skills, and I have no idea what else to do could be passionate” concluded the Brit.

The first two productions from Hamilton’s company are the Brad Pitt film and then a documentary about Lewis’ own journey through life from poor Stevenage to the top of the world. The documentary is expected to premiere in late 2023.
