Sign: ‘I have even more respect for Hamilton after the podium in Abu Dhabi’
Carlos Sainte, who shared the Abu Dhabi GP podium with Max Ferstappen and Lewis Hamilton, expressed his admiration for the British team as he struggled to realize how he had lost his title.
The Emirates race had just ended and Max Ferstappen’s victory on the final lap of Abu Dhabi’s Yia Marina circuit marked one of the most episodic and contentious battles in Formula 1 history.
Behind this is the furious jubilation of the Dutchman for the first championship title of his career Formula 1, Hamilton tried to realize everything that had happened: his exit Vehicle safety for Nicolas Lafiti’s accident, his irregular decisions Race director Michael Massey on the safety car while overtaking von Ferstappen -who had fresh tires- on the last lap and while the Englishman was absolute ruler until then.
Carlos Sainth, who finished third, saw a Hamilton trying on the podium organizes after this shocking – and by many unfair – development and was impressed that the British were successful.
Speaking to Corriere Della Sera, the Spanish Ferrari driver said: “It’s extraordinary hard for a driver to accept that he lost the championship on the last lap way.” He added, “I respect [τον Χάμιλτον] more than before, just for how he did it. We changed some conversations on the podium and he really suffered.”
In fact, Saint stressed that he was surprised Lewis didn’t incite tension at that moment of high adrenaline and a strong sense of injustice.
He went on to say that what followed the podium in Abu Dhabi, particularly the shocking comments online by Hamilton supporters and the backlash against Michael Massey, should not make Formula 1 a football fanatic: “Every football game creates controversy. We have to stop F1 from doing that such tensions. We must not make the same mistake again.”.

A king was born on Boxing Day: Amorim’s United fielded four defenders for the first time
There was only one Premier League game, held on Friday December 26th, the traditional Boxing Day, but it was a very good match for Manchester United fans who have experienced so much disappointment of late. A 1-0 win against Newcastle was a relief for the Old Trafford side.
But it was more than that. Ruben Amorim, unwilling to change his philosophy despite his poor results, played with four players in defense for the first time at United.
United have changed in other ways as well. They won with a possession rate of 33.4%, the lowest of any Red Devils team this season. This was also the lowest since January 2023, when they scored 29.4 per cent in the win over Manchester City. And United had nine shots on goal compared to 16 for the Magpies.
Patrick Dorg’s first goal as a Manchester United player and his second “clean sheet” of the season opened the door to an unpretty but essential victory for Amorim’s side. Amorim admitted it was one of his “most satisfying” wins since taking charge of United. “We are suffering together. If we always have this spirit, we will win many games,” added the Portuguese coach. And all this happened without United football’s most influential player, Bruno Fernandes, missing out due to injury. Amorim replaced the Portuguese midfielder with Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte.
