Alonso abandonment and great anger over another problem with his car in Mexico
It’s a tonic for all seasons. Fernando Alonso shines on track, but his car has prevented him from adding the points he deserves. It happened again at the F1 GP in Mexico. It is not surprising that the Spaniards complained on the radio: “Unbelievable. What a season! What a season!”Alonso got off to a great start, moving up two places from 9th to 7th at the start. He set a very good pace on the medium tyres, extending his first stint very well for a total of 40 laps.
He took 7th place as best ‘human’ behind 6 best cars. But again, his Alpine failed again. He started to lose speed and Ricciardo and Ocon passed him, with Fernando unable to do anything to prevent it. I couldn’t hide my disappointment with 9th place. I knew how it would end. He retired on lap 65 with six laps to go. Some good points have missed him, far more than what Esteban suffered after a campaign full of reliability failures in his Alpine.
Fernando Alonso got out of the car very angry, made an angry gesture and eventually leaned his head against the barrier, showing sadness and regret. I was devastated. He had one great weekend where he tried his best, but he didn’t win the prize. And there are already too many.
