The colors of the new Alpha Tauri AT03
In a digitally edited video, Alpha Tauri showed off the color of its new car, the AT03, when it will be unveiled in its natural state at next week’s Winter Evolution Tests in Barcelona (23/2).
Alpha Tauri’s online “presentation” revealed nothing about the new AT03 car, which will be driven by Pierre Gasley and Yuki Tsunoda in Formula 1 in 2022, apart from the color scheme. This happened for advertising purposes parallel to the presentation of the fashion line.
The (advanced) Honda powerplant will still be on the rear of the AT03, but after the Japanese company left F1 at the end of 2021, its name and emblem are nowhere to be found on the car’s surface. However, Honda will reportedly continue to build its own Red Bull Racing and Alpha Tauri engines in Japan until the end of 2025.
Alpha Tauri’s goal is to repeat or even surpass the performance of the most successful season in its young history in 2021. It finished the year with 142 points and 6th place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Gasley said of the new AT03: “This year brings big design changes as the look and design of the car is completely different and therefore the team starts in white. We won’t know the true performance of the AT03 until we hit the Barcelona track, but at the moment it’s looking great and I’m looking forward to the start of the season“.
The team’s race director, Franz Tost, said of the car that “I believe that we will manage to create something very special“.
Winter testing of the new cars will take place in Barcelona on February 23-25 and in Bahrain on March 10-12, and then the Emirate of Persia will also host the first GP of the year on March 20.
