Alonso touches Ocon twice and explodes
pour oil on the flame. In his penultimate round of the season, Fernando’s Alonso double-touched team-mate Esteban his Ocon on the first lap of his race in his Formula 1 GP sprint in Brazil. collided.
The Spaniard tried to overtake his teammate outside Turn 4 on the first lap, but Esteban opened up and left without space Fernando, who was already on the curb and nearly lost his car. Alonso’s car gave him a big whiplash and the Spaniard touched Esteban’s right pontoon with his left front wheel. He was able to stay on track and attempted to slipstream on the main straight. However, on the curve traced to the bottom before the straight, the Spaniard clung to Esteban and both made contact, causing the Spaniard to lose his front wing. He had to go into the pit to put the new wing on, so he went in last place. And that was synonymous with just finishing last in his 24-lap sprint with no one stopping and starting from that position in Sunday’s race.
Fernando Alonso didn’t like Ocon’s defense at all, who had already defended beyond limits in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia at the start of the course. So Fernando blew up on the radio. “I lost my front wing because of a friend,” he said sarcastically, later complaining more forcefully: “He pushed me into Turn 4. And finally, he pushed me. Pushed straight down. Great!”.
In the first action, Ocon opens up and leaves Alonso behind. However, the subsequent action on the straight is more difficult to understand. Both pilots were called to testify before the stewards to clarify what happened.
Statement on “DAZN F1”
After the race, Fernando Alonso returned to charge in front of the DAZN F1 microphone, highlighting that Ocon has been very aggressive in defending himself in races where both have met this year, making those moves. revealed that he did nothing more than harm the team.
“It’s hilarious. We’re 15th and 18th and it’s a lot of fun. It’s always like that when we go out together, but I avoided it a few times last year. I almost hit a wall this year in Jeddah and Hungary. Now that I’m here, I can’t say anything because sooner or later these things happen.”commented.
“It’s a bit sad for the hard working mechanics, but hopefully we’ll be back tomorrow. We had pace throughout the race, so even starting 15th will add some good points for the team,” added the Oviedo man.
Penalty for Alonso
However, both drivers testified before the stewards after the race, where Fernando Alonso assured that, according to the FIA, “he miscalculated the moment he exited the slipstream a little bit”, with the stewards imposing the Spaniard’s five inches. He received a two-hit penalty and was demoted to 18th place behind Ocon, who started 17th.
