F1 GP Brazil: Visor protector hurts Sainz
Carlos Sainz raced in a perfect cooking point. He was third behind Russell and Perez. Both were on soft tyres, so on the medium tyres, he had to stop in front of Sainz, who was third. But the Spaniard had to enter on his 19th lap, which could reduce his chances of winning and cost him a strategic advantage at this Sunday’s Brazilian F1 GP. Reason: A very unfortunate blow. The Spaniard had left another pilot’s visor blocking his protector (tear-off) on his right rear brake. This prevented him from recording good pace, causing him to lose momentum over the first two and enter the pits earlier than expected.
Carlos Sainz thus changed his strategy and stopped too early on lap 19, so he put on soft tires and continued his attack. He went off the track in 11th place and was quickly back on track. And with the rest of the pit stops, Sainz was close to Perez in fourth place, with Hamilton taking the lead, but still didn’t stop.
