New Williams FW44 debut – the first without the Senna badge on the muzzle
For the first time since 1994, the 2022 Williams car will not bring the Ayrton Senna S to the front wing base, as revealed at the presentation of the new FW44 and its first shakedown at Silverstone.
Each year for 27 consecutive years, Sir Frank Williams has adorned the snout of the cars with the emblem of the great Brazilian who lost his life driving one of the team’s cars – the Williams FW16– May Day 1994 in Imola, Italy.
“This decision is based on our desire to go further” explained the team’s CEO, Just Capito. “We have entered a new era, we have a new car and we have renovated our museum where we have a special section honoring Ayrton.
We have to look to the future and not show it to the drivers S Every time they get in the car, they are reminded of what happened back then.”, added the Brit. THAT Williamswe remind you, no longer belongs to the Williams family, but to the American fund Dorilton Capital.
Williams today debuted the new 2022 colorway with a rudimentary car, the “includes the exciting new era of the brand Williams” according to the team. Different owners, different times, different customs.
Shortly after, at the Silverstone circuit, the team unveiled its real new car, the FW44, signed by the team’s Technical Director, François Xavier Demeson.
Both the team’s drivers – Nicholas Latifi and Alex Albon – had the experience of the new car at the Northamptonshire track. The track was wet, but despite this, the team’s main objective during the on-track shakedown was to verify the proper functioning of the FW44 systems.
Williams’ aim for 2022 is to take another step up from his unexpected rebound in 2021, when he managed to finish several 2021 GPs in points from last place and zero points a year earlier – and second George Russell on the podium to culminate in the Belgian GP, the race that never took place.
“The regulations are really new, so the whole aerodynamic philosophy of the car is very, very different.”, Capito explained. “We learn every moment that passes. THAT Williams is more than 40 years in F1 So we’ve got all the experience of those years, we have great talent on the team and we’ll see what they can do.
