Russell dominated the Interlagos sprint race

George Russell was the winner of the Brazilian sprint race and crossed the checkered flag first ahead of Carlos Sainz and Lewis Hamilton. 1-2 Mercedes in Sunday’s game thanks to a penalty by the Spaniard.

George Russell was the first to see the checkered flag at the Interlago Sprint Race. The British Mercedes driver starts Sunday’s race as first and scored the maximum of eight points.

Carlos Sainz was second (he has a five-place penalty) and third was Lewis Hamilton, who gained five places. So Mercedes will have 1-2 in the game.

Russell put up a good fight with Verstappen who eventually dropped to 4th as the middle tire strategy didn’t work as expected.

Made with Flourish

At the start, unexpected pole position holder Kevin Magnussen held first place but soon – predictably – became easy prey for the much faster cars of Verstappen, Russell, Saint and Hamilton.

In the following laps, Verstappen managed to hold the lead despite his average – and thus at least half a second slower – tire. But perhaps his pursuers were simply managing and grooming their soft rubber for the first half of the race’s 24 laps.

After that, it didn’t take them long to attack. Despite a strong – and clean – defense from Verstappen, Russell managed to pass the Dutchman with DRS and Saind did the same under the brakes at Turn One shortly afterwards.

However, Sainz’s contact with the champion’s Red Bull while overtaking left a broken front wing on the RB18 and a few more problems from debris that Max had previously run over. In any case, the Dutchman’s problem was his medium tire, which soon made him easy prey for Hamilton too.

It is not known why RBR and Verstappen chose the medium tire – perhaps they did it to save a fresh set of soft tires for tomorrow’s GP – it is not known whether they solved their understeer problems from yesterday and it is it is also not known if Mercedes she has her excellent speed today and in the sets of laps on medium or hard rubber to continue to challenge Verstappen tomorrow.

“Starting from the front row we can work as a team. We will do our best when we have relatively good tire wear and good weather. A win here would be fantastic,” said Hamilton, starting from second place because of Saind’s 5-place penalty for an engine change.

For his part, Saith said: “Normally we have a slightly higher tire wear rate than the Mercedes, so I had to be aggressive. Mercedes will be very quick in the race.”

And winner Russell added: “It was amazing, I didn’t expect that we would have so much speed but it shows how much progress we’ve made as a team. It’s a great feeling to be here. It’s crazy that we’re both starting from the front row. I’m sure Max will fly tomorrow but let’s get the win.”

For Hamilton, however, a decision is still pending from the sports commissioners due to an irregularity at the start. A similar decision awaits Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon in their two clashes in the Alps, while Lance Stroll dropped to 17th in both Aston Martins today after knocking Sebastian Vettel off the track with a penalty. disputes within the family.

Tonight’s top 8 took 8-1 staggered points but Verstappen didn’t choose to give the extra point of 4th place to Sergio Perez, who took just one more than Charles Leclerc in the battle for second place in the Championship. We remind you that today Leclerc started from 10th place in Q3 of yesterday’s qualifying tests due to the wrong choice of -medium rain tires.

The Brazilian GP, the 21st and penultimate round of Formula 1 this year, starts tomorrow (November 13) at 8:00 p.m.

Legendary rally champion reacted to Ferrari’s decision regarding his son

Carlos Sainz Sr., father of Carlos Sainz and two-time world rally champion, has commented on Ferrari’s decision to replace his son with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton.

Sainz was left without a seat at Ferrari last year and later joined Williams. In 2025, the Spaniard outperformed Hamilton and achieved two podiums, while the Briton had none.

Carlos Sainz Sr. emphasized that neither he nor his son criticized Hamilton:

“It’s not our problem, it’s not Carlos’ problem. Ferrari was close to winning the constructors’ championship in 2024, but this year the team has faced difficulties. My advice, and Carlos agrees, is to focus on your work. The world is already too complex to worry about everyone. Let people draw their own conclusions,” he said.

At the same time, Sainz Sr. believes that his son can become a world champion:

“I have a lot of confidence in him and I want to believe that it is possible. I am his father and I have seen how talented he is. If he is in the right place at the right time, he can really achieve this. Everything has to match perfectly. He works and fights for it,” he added.

The rally champion also noted that success depends on the car and the team:

“Unfortunately, I don’t have a crystal ball to know how teams are preparing for radical changes in F1. It all depends on the engine and the chassis. It would be good for Williams to produce a competitive car and fight for the podium. Now they can be at the bottom, middle or top of the table and under the new rules the stronger teams have more resources.”

Mercedes leader challenges Verstappen: “He’s the one I want to fight with”

Mercedes driver George Russell says he is ready to prove his ability to challenge for the Formula 1 championship and is not afraid to confront Max Verstappen directly.

The Briton had been driving for Mercedes for four seasons but joined the Brackley team just as it lost its leading position. During this time, Russell achieved five Grand Prix victories but had to watch Verstappen and Lando Norris win the titles.

On the eve of major regulatory changes in 2026, many experts see Mercedes as one of the favorites of the new technical cycle. Russell hopes this will be his chance to consistently compete at the top.

“I’m confident I can compete with the best. Max is the gold standard right now,” said Russell.

I would like to fight him head on. “This is the only pilot next to whom you can really test your level.”

After Lewis Hamilton moved to Ferrari, Russell established himself as the leader of Mercedes. The 27-year-old compares his situation to the career of Michael Schumacher, who won his first championship after working for Ferrari for five years.

“You either fight for the championship or you don’t. Nobody dreams of fighting for second place. I’m ready to take my chances and I understand that patience is required,” concluded Russell.
