Checa: “The hardest thing about the Dakar is not being able to go as fast as possible”
Carlos Checa Become one of the three drivers behind the wheel of the ASTARA TEAM 01 CONCEPT at the 2023 Dakar Rally, With teammates Oscar Fuertes and Laia SanzIn this sustainable vehicle, former MotoGP riders and superbike world champion It’s a step forward in performance compared to what I wore on my Dakar debut in 2022. Not only that, but the entire organization headed by Gonzalo de Andrés and his new co-his driver, the ex-motorcycle quality of his drivers. Dakar Marc Sola – Gives him enough confidence to ensure that he is ‘able to aim to achieve better results’.
Accustomed to competing for the last 1/1000 on circuits around the world, Czech language The most expensive thing for him to learn was Dakar, where errors are highly paid. “The hardest thing mentally is not being able to run as fast as you really can,” he says. After learning last year, he believes he’s found the balance he needs between speed, reliability, and risk.
Another key to ASTARA TEAM is its strong commitment to sustainability through the use of synthetic fuels that reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere by 90% compared to conventional fuels. For Checa, this option is “very interesting and should be developed”.
What made you bet on the ASTARA TEAM project for Dakar 2023?
A project that excites me in big words, with the ability to grow in Dakar. Now, with a better team and an experienced co-driver like Marc Sola, I think we can reach a higher level. That’s why I’m going back to Dakar.
What did you feel when you test drove the ASTARA 01 CONCEPT?
From my first test, I loved it. Very different from the car I had last year. I have very little experience in the Dakar, especially with this car, but as soon as I rode it I noticed that it performed much better. I’m sure you can aim for better results.
What was the most difficult transition from circuit bikes to Dakar?
Switching from a motorcycle to a car isn’t easy, but it’s relatively manageable. Putting two wheels is always easier. Basically, the most complicated thing is adapting to the type of race. I’m used to attending short speed races and aiming for the last thousandth.A race like the Dakar requires speed, but you don’t have to push yourself to the limit. Especially after last year’s Dakar, little by little we are starting to find a balance between speed, maintaining mechanics and avoiding mistakes.
ASTARA TEAM has a strong commitment to sustainability by using advanced 90% synthetic fuels. Do you think this type of fuel is the future?
I think it’s a very interesting alternative as it doesn’t require changing the mechanics or the type of engine currently in use. Adapting an entire mobile park to another technology can take a very long time. On the other hand, e-fuel is a very interesting option that needs to be developed due to its current high price. I think it might be the best alternative to conventional fuel. We used it at Dakar to show that it is perfectly viable.
You are working with your new co-driver Marc Sola this year, how is your relationship with him?
He is a very nice person and has a lot of experience. We know each other very well, which is important in a race like this. Driver-co-driver relationships form over time, so it will take a while to adapt, but we have a good foundation.
You also have new teammates Oscar Fuertes and Laia Sanz, how are you getting along with them?
cool! I’ve known Laia for many years and have a lot of respect for her amazing career on her bike. Whenever we happened to meet at an event, we had a great time.On the other hand, I met Oscar at Dakar last year and have been very good friends ever since. Having good relationships is also key to fighting for good joint goals. This is what we will be doing in the next few weeks.
What goals have you set for Dakar 2023?
The goal is to do better than last year and maintain a high performance from start to finish. Talking about goals and numbers is like winning the lottery. Because I don’t know what level it will be compared to other rivals. I’m happy if I can do my best every day, make as few mistakes as possible, and maximize not only the performance of the team and the car, but also our abilities.

David’s son Luca Villa makes his debut in La Liga FC Futures
Lucas VillaAt just 12 years old, he is one of the exciting players selected by Atletico Madrid’s coaching staff. Liga FC Futures what is being played in Gran Canaria Stadium (Las Palmas).
The last name is not deceiving. The son of David Villa, who played as a forward for Sporting de Gijón, Zaragoza, Valencia, FC Barcelona, Atleti, Melbourne City, New York City and Vissel Kobe, has scoring in his blood. ‘Guahé’ only wore the red and white shirt for one season, but he left his mark on the fans. They won the historic league game 13-14 and were just short of qualifying for the Champions League. For Kouhaku fans who are currently excited about “Mini Guaju”, it was a year that didn’t really feel that way.

Although Luka is a forward, he prefers to drop to the flanks, as Spain’s No. 7 did at the World Cup, which his team won. In his case, he is left-handed, so he tends to the left side, but he also plays defense in the center. He has a sense of smell for goals, which is one of the traits a person is born with or not. He could hit from anywhere and dominated the aerial duel with powerful shots from outside the area. A few months ago, he had already said that he wanted to be like his father and Fernando Torres. It’s clear that Mattresses’ DNA runs through his veins.
In their debut in La Liga, FC Futures repeatedly missed their mark, pressed from high positions and were inside the playing area which ended in an own goal that led to a goal. The best is yet to come.
