Former F1 driver Philip Stryfe dies
Former French F1 driver Philippe Stryfe has died at the age of 67, F1 Media reported on Saturday.In a tribute tweet, F1 president Stefano Domenicali said: “Sad at the news of the passing of Philippe Stryfe. He has shown incredible courage and determination throughout his life.”
Born in La Tronche in 1955, Stryfe suffered a terrible F1 accident while testing tires for French team AGS. 1989 at the Jacarepagua circuit in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). he became a quadriplegic After that, I devoted myself to advocating for people with disabilities.
Like others, his crash helped F1 officials improve safety and the medical facilities of the circuit.
After studying engineering, Renault introduced him to F1 as a test driver in 1984. In 1985, he scored his only podium at Ligier in Australia before signing for British team Tyrrell.with whom he played most of the Grand Prix (48 of 53).
Before F1, he competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing second at London in 1981.
