Alfa Romeo presented the new C42 by Valteri Botas

Hinville’s team have unveiled the color of their new car, C42, for the 2022 Formula 1 Championship – having already conducted their first camouflage testing during the three days of Barcelona.

The presentation of the new Alfa Romeo C42, which will lead to this season’s GPs, by Valteri Botas and Chinese debutant Guaniou Chou was the tenth and last of the white facelifted Formula 1 cars this year and was streamed online through augmented virtual reality accomplished.

The change in regulations, this year’s cut in teams’ budgets – which allowed them to all be at the same starting point for the new season – and Valteri Botas’ experience of the Championship in Mercedes and his 10 victories make Alfa Romeo optimistic that he will 2022 can enter the battle of medium dynamic teams.

The Hinville-based C42 designer was Jean Monso’s technical director and the color scheme is inspired by Alfa Romeo’s famous Centro Stile, based on the history of both the Italian company and Sauber – which celebrates its 30th anniversary in F1 this year celebrates. We remind you that the Swiss team (formerly Sauber) uses Ferrari mechanical parts and the hybrid system.


The C42 color scheme is mesmerizing, really beautiful and I think the Centro Stile did a great job“Botas pointed out.”It’s my first car in my time at Alfa Romeo and that makes it very special for me. It’s fascinating that we don’t know at all how the first leg in Bahrain will end.

The tests helped us with that confirm our expectations about where we are. Ever since I joined the team, I see such strong motivations. Everyone’s pushing a lot, trying to work harder to be competitive and that gives me an extra boost when I’m in the cockpit‘ the Finn concluded.

Speaking about the Alfa Romeo C42, its technical director Jean Monso explained: “Designing and building this car was a huge project and we are proud of what we have achieved. But our work is not over yet. As with any cycle of new regulations, the pace of development will be at its highest this year and we need to continue to get more out of the car to make the progress we aim for this season“.

After the first three days of testing in Barcelona last week, Alfa Romeo will now compete in its regular livery for Season 2, to be held in Shakir, Bahrain from March 10-12 – a week ahead of the inaugural 2022 GP at the same route from March 18th to 20th.
