30th round of Attica: Hatzikonstantinou-Dimakareas with a VW Golf GTI are the winners with a surprise

The SISA racing season opened on Saturday, March 4, 2023 with the participation of 95 teams in the 30th round of Attica.

The Tour of Attica, a legendary race with 30 years of history, was organized on Saturday March 4th by the Sports Car Owners Association (SISA) with the support of the Rafina Port Organization and the Municipality of Rafina-Pikermio. After the Tempe train tragedy, the launch process was kept low key as a small tribute to the victims of the tragedy, while all attendees hung black ribbons on their cars.

The Tour of Attica is the longest running one-day historic car rally in Greece, traditionally opening the SISA racing season. Six special routes with 159 kilometers of racing and 22 time trials for the demanding category of regularity, whereby the announced changes to the regulations were implemented for the first time. At the same track, the renewed Touring Trophy class entered half of the time trials, while 10 shiny cars older than 40 years competed in the Classique class.

This year’s race had a record attendance of 95 teams, while a pleasant surprise was the number of new entries, showing a touch of optimism for the future of SISA racing. The level of participants in all categories was very high, leaving no room for favorites, while tenths of a second fights were predicted!

The start took place at 14:00 in Rafina’s Karamanli Park, in the presence of Mayor Evangelos Bournos, towards Artemisa and the first special “Hippodrome”. This was followed by the ‘Kouvaras’ making life difficult for many crews with their complex navigation and then the time control station ‘Lavrio’ for a 30 minute recon that found last year’s winners Katohianos/Christakeas in the lead with a Ford Fiesta.

At 4:10 p.m. the second stage started in the direction of Sounio and the ever-loved special “Kamariza”. This was followed by the demanding “Syderina”, the technical “Neos Kouvaras” and “Drafi”. At 18:30 the finish started in Rafina and ended around 20:00.

At 20:30, the award ceremony took place in the Oceanis restaurant, in the presence of the Vice Mayor Mr. Sp. Karlos, the Chairman of the Sustainable Environment Committee Mr. D. Karastamis, the S-City athlete – Mr. Dr. N. Pantazis and many local Actors.

The winners of the race with a surprise in the 5th special stage were Hadjikonstantinou/Dimakareas with a VW Golf Gti. Kyr.Kofinas/N. Kofinas with a VW Golf Gti and third went to Langas/Petrogiannis with an Alfa Romeo 75, claiming a second consecutive podium finish. In the Youngtimer GT, Melanitis/Pitarakis shone with a Ford Escort RS2000, Floros/Kobothanasis came second with a Renault Clio and Siettos/Bournovalakis took third place with a Peugeot 106 Rallye.

In the Touring Trophy category, Lagakis/Tsalikis with Subaru Legacy won, second was Kon. Kofinas/And. Kofinas third with an Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo and Kyranas/Eustathiou third with a Citroen DS. In the Classique category, Angelopoulos/Konstantinidis won with MGB GT, with Mr. Koukakis/L. Koukakis was second with Triumph Herald and Lymberopoulos/Gianniotis third with Mercedes 250S.
