Ferrari make ‘small evolution towards Australia’ with much to analyze
“It’s a harsh reality,” said Carlos Sainz after the F1 Saudi Grand Prix. “We degrade too much, use the tires too much and ultimately make it difficult for you in the race.”, added the Spaniard in the post-race “DAZN F1”. Ferrari is in trouble, but his team principal Frédéric his Vasseur calls for ‘calm down’. He believes his team can decipher the problems his car is having, preventing him from tapping into all the potential he manages to show on Saturday.
At the Italian factory they expected to join the fight against Red Bull right from the start with the SF23, an evolution of last year’s car that maintains its strengths and negates its weaknesses. It was created with the main purpose of
disappointment
Ferrari needed to improve their engine and power appeared to be on the rise, but its reliability affected Leclerc’s retirement in Bahrain, eventually dropping to Jeddah after only two races and a third. I received a penalty for installing an electronic control unit. Ferrari put his second internal combustion engine (up to three per year) in just his two appointments, which is certainly not a good sign.
But the thing that worries me most is the race pace. In Jeddah, Sainz was sixth and Leclerc seventh. Ferrari are further degrading their tyres, which was also seen in Bahrain. And in Jeddah, where degradation is low and where Ferraro can draw on engine improvements, the Italian was expected to fight for everything at Red Bull or just behind. But it wasn’t. The Italian was disappointed with a completely different type of track from Bahrain.and then your Team principal Frédéric Vasseur revealed at a press conference that the main problem was the failure to “maximize the potential of the car on all compounds”.
“You have to make the most of the whole weekend.”
Vasseur chose not to put down his arms and to continue working, focusing on improvement, stressing that “not everything is bad”, adding that “compared to Aston Martin and Mercedes, we are one step ahead in class division. We were able to move forward.” Leclerc, who was second in “Qualy”.
“We bring some small evolutions in Australia”, We made it clear, but reiterated that the biggest improvement for them should come when they succeed in understanding the car: “We have to maximize the potential of the whole weekend.noted, among other things, the poor performance of his car with tires in the final part of the race.
“Our business performance comes from multiple sources. Success is more than just one thing. We need to continue to do our best in each of our performance areas and from the pictures we’ve seen this weekend, the potential of the car was good at the beginning, but not at the end.”he added.
“Yesterday[Saturday]the pace was decent and we took a step forward and extended our lead[by a lap]over Mercedes and Aston Martin. In ‘qualifying’ Charles was quicker than Aston Martin and Mercedes. In the race, Charles had a good comeback and Carlos had a good rhythm compared to the others in his first stint on the medium. The main issue we have to understand and improve is the management of different types of (tire) compounds over the weekend. ”he downplayed the modifications to the internal combustion engines of his two cars.
“Reliability? The problem was in Bahrain and it was unexpected as it was the first time we had that problem. As a precaution we replaced the engine. But that engine will be back in the car as soon as possible.” he added.
