MotoGP 2023 Portuguese Grand Prix schedule and where to watch on TV

MotoGP is back, with the Portuguese Grand Prix taking place in the Portuguese town of Portimao. This impressive setup was chosen to kick off his 2023 season, which will occupy the first round of the course on the calendar, rather than the traditional start at his circuit in Losail, Qatar.

This new motorcycle course brings a fresh take on sprint racing. This will be half the points and laps of the regular course that runs on Sunday. This innovation will change the entire weekend programme, as Friday’s practice session already has a special relevance in the fight for pole position.

This is already due to be formalized on Saturday morning. These grid positions still play a leading role on Sunday, but are irrelevant to the sprint positions.

Reigning champion Pecco Bagnaia rides a Ducati that has proven excellent in pre-season testing. Bagnaia is the favourite, but Honda is also skeptical. Marc Márquez is already in top physical shape, but Mount has not accompanied him so far.

The Japanese team’s other drivers, Joan Mir and Alex Rins, continue to make difficult adjustments. Yamaha also has world champion Fabio Quartararo, but he also wants to regain hegemony.

Other options are Spaniards Jorge Martin and Alex Marquez, who are joining Ducati’s ranks. Aprilia welcomes Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales as official riders.

As for the Moto2 category, Spanish rider Pedro Acosta started as the favorite. He shined in the final tests at Jerez and Portimao, which is why he is considered a rival to beat. Of course, the category is highly competitive and Albert Arenas, Alon Canetto, Alonso Lopez, Tony Arbolino, Sam Rouse, Ai Ogura… Moto3 Champion Izan Guevara adapts to his second category is likely to take some time.

A small category, Moto3 is very open. Riders such as Jaume Macia, Romano Fenati, Deniz Onju and many new riders from the FIM CEV have a chance. In between, there are some drivers who stood out last season, including David Munoz, Dani Jorgado and Diogo Moreira. Note that neither this category nor his Moto2 category has a “warm up”.
