New testimony comes to light in Angel Nieto’s death
Two witnesses to the July 26, 2017 crash that killed 13-time motorcycle world champion Angel Nieto saw the rider’s helmet unbuttoned just before the crash. reported in the Second Court of Ibiza.
To these two statements made last Tuesday is added another third from one of the people who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident occurred on July 26, 2017.
Agencia EFE learned that the only woman who witnessed the accident claimed to have observed how Nieto’s helmet flew off and saw the strap loosen “before the crash happened.”
Additionally, he pointed out in court that the vehicle that collided with the “quad” Nieto was in was “very close” and that he had a “feeling” that the car was “moving faster.”
In his speech, he assured that he thought the car’s speed was “excessive” and denied that the motorcycle champion’s quad had collided with another vehicle.
A second eyewitness to the accident saw the car crash from behind the “quad” and reported that the pilot was thrown out while the case was falling.
This same witness indicated that the vehicle behind Nieto’s ‘quad’ was not going ‘very fast’.
Finally, the Second Court of Investigation accepted the statement of one of the first to arrive at the scene after the accident occurred.
In this case, the man recalled that Nieto, who was on the road after the accident, was not wearing a helmet, and assured him that he had not seen anyone take it off or wait for it to happen.
These statements were made after the Parma Court in June 2018 ordered the case to be reopened and to take the necessary steps to “make the facts fully clear”.
In the first instance, Ibiza’s Second Investigative Court filed the case on the understanding that the driver who rear-ended Nieto’s car had committed no crime.
Nieto’s relatives appealed the dismissal, believing it to be premature, and demanded the implementation of the proceedings, as well as the statements of the driver and witnesses.
The driver made a statement in March 2021 under investigation for possible reckless murder.
The accident occurred on the Santa Gertrudis Highway on July 26, 2017, when the defendant’s car struck the rear of the “quad” that Nieto was driving and Nieto was thrown and hit his head on the ground.
The pilot died on August 3 after spending several days in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic.

Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso added the new high-performance SUV Aston Martin DBX S to his car collection. The driver took delivery of the car, valued at more than $260,000, a few days before Christmas in Monte Carlo, where he was photographed next to the new product near the Aston Martin dealership in Monaco.
Powered by Mercedes’ 727 horsepower 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8, the DBX S reaches 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The new SUV joins Alonso’s collection, which already includes the Aston Martin Valiant and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR.
With 2026 rule changes approaching, Alonso and Aston Martin hope the new DBX S will signal the beginning of better times. The team’s new technical partnership with Honda and Adrian Newey’s experience pave the way for Aston Martin to challenge for top spot next season.

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has admitted he has had to significantly change his daily training regime as he gets older to cope with the physical and mental demands of the World Championship. The 40-year-old Ferrari driver is preparing for his 20th season in F1 and is the second oldest driver on the grid after Fernando Alonso.
The Briton stated that his preparation is now much tighter than at the beginning of his career, with recovery playing a key role in maintaining a competitive level.
“The regime has changed, it has improved. I still love running. This morning I ran 6 to 8 miles. Then I took an ice bath. But above all, the first thing I do as soon as I get out of bed is stretch,” Hamilton said.
According to the pilot, in order not to gain excessive weight, he limits strength training and prefers pilates, yoga and interval training. At the same time, there are two elements that he does not reject under any circumstances.
“Ice baths are not an option. Before, I didn’t really think about recovery: I just trained and got on with my life. Now stretching and ice baths are things I force myself to do every day,” Hamilton emphasized.
The seven-time champion athlete attaches great importance to mental health as well as physical training. He admitted that breathing exercises, meditation and yoga helped him cope with the stress of the 24-stage season.
The Ferrari driver concluded: “An ice bath teaches you to control your breathing and fight the urge to give up. This helps me stay positive throughout the year.”
