Difficult task driving Formula 1 and MotoGP together
The idea of hosting a Formula 1 and a MotoGP race together on the same day and at the same track was recently discussed at official level, but according to Carmelo Ethpeleta the implementation faces many difficulties.
Ethpeleta, MotoGP Commander, confirmed a few days ago that he is in talks with Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali about the wonderful idea of holding two GPs of the top four and two wheel championships in the same venue and three days of racing.
“I spoke to Stefano Domenicali about having an F1 and a motorcycle race on the same three days and at the same track. We’re thinking about that. Stefano spoke to me about a track in Madrid and I have already spoken to the Mayor of Madrid”, Ethpeleta had said so explicitly.
But he has now explained – in Speed Week magazine – that there are some difficult obstacles to overcome in order for this idea to become a reality: “Of course we know that we are dealing with a difficult task. There are few common circuits on the schedule where F1 and MotoGP compete in the same year.
We have found over the years that this is only possible if the promoter and the track manager work together. In addition, a street circuit is out of the question – we need much larger escape zones in MotoGP than in Formula 1.” concluded Ethpeleta.
