Night Grand Prix in Las Vegas in November 2023
After 40 years, Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas in November 2023, but this time on the streets of downtown America – on Saturday night instead of Sunday.
Unlike 1981 and 1982, which took place in the huge parking lot of Ceasar’s Palace Hotel, the third American Formula 1 race – after Austin, Texas and Miami, which is added this year – will pass through all of the American city’s legendary hotels and casinos Gambling in central Nevada desert.
The circuit will be built on the streets of Las Vegas and will include the famous Vegas Strip, according to commercial sports rights holder American Liberty Media, formalizing the agreement with Las Vegas authorities after several months of negotiations.
At the same time, it was agreed to deviate from the classic GP program so that the race will take place on Saturday evening instead of Sunday. Liberty aims to achieve further F1 penetration in the US by broadcasting the Las Vegas GP during rush hour. Hopefully, of course, the struggle will not be met with the utter indifference of the Americans, as it was in 1981-82.
This is the first time since 1985 that an F1 race has been held on Saturday.
Of course for us in Greece the GP starts in the early hours of Sunday morning as Las Vegas is 10 hours behind our country. The course on the streets of Las Vegas will have a length of 6.1 kilometers, 14 corners, an impenetrable huge straight and a duration of 50 laps.
As well as adding Las Vegas to the 2023 programme, Formula 1 has already announced that it will return to Qatar next year to start the new ten-year deal with the Emirati authorities. It will be established as the fourth sporting event in the Middle East after Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi.
Also, China’s GP will return in 2023 after a three-year absence due to the pandemic – as the Asian country is the world’s largest market for Formula One, with around 23 million new cars sold a year. The team’s Concorde deal with F1 limits races to 24 a year, however recently the sport’s CEO, Stefano Domenicali, spoke of increasing the program to 30 GP. How he manages to do that remains to be seen.
This will be the third GP to be held in the United States, following Austin, Texas and Miami, which debut next May.
