The secret term in Ferstappen’s legendary deal with Red Bull
Max Ferstappen is tied to Team Red Bull until 2028. But the contract contains an escape clause.
The F1 2021 champion signed the biggest driver deal in F1 history a month ago, securing a hugely lucrative deal until the end of 2028.
According to information, Max Ferstappen’s annual earnings at Red Bull amount to 40 million euros!
However, it is not entirely certain whether the Dutchman will drive the Austrian cars for the next 7 years. As Red Bull Racing consultant Dr. Helmut Marco, Ferstappen could leave if the team’s performance falters in the coming years, as happened in 2014 after a streak of four consecutive drivers’ and manufacturers’ championships.
Speaking to German Formula 1, Marco said: “If Red Bull shows an enormous drop in performance like in 2014, then of course there is an escape clause“.
Of course, Marco didn’t want to give any details about the exact structure of the clause, but he has no doubt that Max’s involvement with Red Bull is the perfect decoy for Audi or Porsche: “Having someone like Max has a positive impact on the rest of the team and their partners‘ he explained in this regard.
