Live in German DTM with Ferrari 488 GT3
WRC legend Sebastian Leb’s passion for racing knows no bounds. The Frenchman will make his debut on May 1st in Portugal at the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) with a Ferrari 488 GT3 from Red Bull – AF Corse.
The most successful driver in rally history, Sebastian Leb, replaces Nick Cassidy from New Zealand, who is committed to Formula E, in the opening race of this year’s DTM from April 30th to May 1st in Portimao, Portugal.
The Frenchman will be in the bucket of the Red Bull Team’s second Ferrari 488 GT3, in the next pit of the team’s other driver, Felipe Franga. The team is curated by the Italian company AF Corse, which last year won the DTM constructors’ championship in the first season of the new season with GT3 cars.
After finishing second this year in the Dakar Rally with the Prodrive buggy and first in the Monte Carlo Rally with the M-Sport Ford Puma Rally1, Leb has already had his first experiences with this very different form of racing. Last week he drove the AF Corse Ferrari 488 GT3 at the Belgian circuit of Spa, while he will take part in the DTM testing at Hockenheim, Germany for the next three days.
Cassidy, who despite his novel adjective has little in common with Jack Kerouark, will also miss the DTM race at Norrising in July and possibly the Spa race again, again due to his duties in Formula E. Leb is barred from further games at the German institution .
“Throughout my career, I have always enjoyed switching from one form of competition to another” said Leb, confirming in words what he has shown in practice for so many years. “the DTM is a famous championship and of course I took the opportunity that was presented to me. It’s an exciting challenge because the driving style is completely different.
Now is the time for work. I’ll be dealing with specialists in the genre and it’s been a long time since I last rode a regular race GT3. My goal is to find the best possible pace and I’ll try to use my experience to give the team good data for setting up the car. I know it’s going to be tough, but these cars are a lot of fun. Very fast, good cars”completed.
In addition to the DTM, Leb will contest the full program of the World Rally Raid Championship this year with the Bahrain Raid Xtreme team, he will also take part in the Extreme E Championship with the X44 team of Lewis Hamilton and Prodrive as long as he finds time for further races in the WRC after Monte, of course with M-Sport Ford.
