Former Aston Martin F1 Race Director Otmar Zafnauer
After 12 years in Force India / Racing Point / Aston Martin F1, the Silverstone team has officially announced the end of the partnership with its manager Otmar Zafnauer – without announcing his successor.
The Aston Martin F1’s performance in 2021 was hugely disappointing despite the arrival of Sebastian Vettel in 2021. The team, which starred in 2020 and won a GP with Sergio Perez (in Bahrain), lost the battle against Alpine and Alpha Tauri last season, finishing the championship in 7th place.
It is currently unknown what he will do after leaving office.
The Aston Martin F1, now owned by businessman Lawrence Stroll, wrote in its announcement: “Otmar Zafnauer has left the company and his role in the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula 1 team will be handed over to the management team until his successor is determined.
We want to wish himoutstanding performance that he has provided for the team over the past 12 years and we wish him all the best for the future, as he will undoubtedly face new challenges. Our team is focused on building the most competitive car for the start of the 2022 season.
