Max Ferstappen shone and thundered for the Red Bull RB18’s new mechanical problem that cost him his second abandonment in three races this year and left him 46 points behind Charles Leclerc at the top of the league.

Max Ferstappen gave up driving the RB18 on lap 39 of the Australian Grand Prix to smoke by the side of the track as he headed for second place to maintain his 24-point lead over Leclerc – who by all means slightly lost on the horizon of the Melbourne race.

Ferstappen admitted he didn’t have the speed today to compete in the Ferrari F1-75 from Monegasque, but his second demise was disastrous – dropping him to 6th place overall. With that data, the champion said he couldn’t even think about winning this year’s title.

“We’re miles away, I can’t even think about the title fight yet.” said the Dutchman. “I think it’s more important to finish the races. Today was another bad day, we didn’t have the speed so I just checked the tires to get the car home.

It seemed like an easy second position and I knew I couldn’t face Charles so there was no point trying to push him. But we didn’t even finish the race so it’s quite annoying and unacceptable.he added.

Ferstappen admitted Red Bull were worried ahead of the match about the mechanical issue that eventually forced him out: “I know we had a problem, so we always had the question mark of whether we would finish the race. I don’t know what happened, they need to take the car back to the factory and investigate. “Those things, if you want to claim the title, can’t be done.”closed.
