Pirelli remains the sole tire supplier to Formula 1 for another four racing seasons and wins the corresponding FIA competition ahead of Bridgestone.

Pirelli’s contract extension with the FIA also includes the extension option for 2028 that the association has. In addition to the Formula 1 championship, the tire range also includes tires in the F2 and F3 categories.

Bridgestone has made a significant financial offer to the sport’s commercial rights holder Liberty Media for its return to Formula 1. However, the latter decided to continue working with Pirelli.

The two companies’ technical documents had previously been examined and ultimately approved by the FIA, but the final decision weighed heavily on Liberty Media. And it received final approval from the FIA’s World Council of Motorsport yesterday (October 9).

One of the challenges of the new contract was to meet Pirelli’s environmental targets regarding tire composition as part of F1’s Net Zero 2030 carbon footprint vision. Pirelli tires will therefore be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council from 2024.

This means that the erasers contain in their composition forest materials obtained from the planting of new trees specifically for this purpose. And what’s more, that’s how they’re managed “Ensures biodiversity and will benefit the lives of local communities and workers in addition to economic sustainability.”

Pirelli’s new deal with the FIA means the company will complete its 17th consecutive season in the sport at the end of 2027 – or 18th if it is extended to 2028. However, Pirelli has made it clear that this contract will be their last in Formula 1 – although this was not mentioned again in today’s announcement.
