Elfyn Evans surprises Japan Rally winner
Englishman Elfyn Evans (Toyota) was this Sunday awarded the prestigious title of World Rally Championship runner-up. WRC at the end of the Japan Rally, the last test of the season. He won ahead of French teammate Sébastien Ogier.
Three-week world champion Kalle Rovanperä was third with a time of 1:46.5. Toyota, which won the triple in Japan, scored 548 points and won the world champion title in the manufacturer category. Second place was Hyundai with 432 units, followed by M-Sport Ford with 287 units.
Belgian Thierry Neuville, who aspired to be second in the world after Rovanpera, experienced a rally to forget.. On the second day, he suffered an accident while in second place and was relegated from the fight, finishing 13th in Japan, over 28 minutes behind the leader. However, the World Cup ended in 3rd place.
