Alonso: “Lewis is very smart and has a lot of experience, but I have more”
Fernando Alonso has hit back at Lewis Hamilton’s allegations that he subjected him to a famous brake test at the Abu Dhabi GP, saying his intention was simply to let him pass to secure DRS on the straight.
After his second pit stop at the Abu Dhabi GP, Fernando Alonso returned in the Aston Martin AMR23 ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes W14. The Englishman approached the Spaniard, but then Alonso got onto the ideal line (on the right side of the track before the upcoming left-hand bend) and seemed to let off the gas.
This surprised Hamilton, and the Englishman radioed that Alonso had subjected him to the famous brake test, an antiquated braking tactic once used by motorists to “cut off the air” from younger drivers. The stewards examined the incident for possible dangerous driving by the Spaniard, but concluded that there was no reason for a penalty.
After the left-hand turn, Hamilton overtook Alonso using DRS, but later in the race the Spaniard overtook the Englishman again and eventually finished two places ahead of him as he also overtook Yuki Tsunoda’s Alpha Tauri – something he attempted unsuccessfully. and Lewis at the end.
Speaking about the incident after the race, Alonso explained that he had taken his foot off the accelerator at that point to allow Hamilton to get past him, so the Spaniard hit the long straight after the left-hand hairpin he was heading towards DRS would have an advantage.
When Alonso was asked about the brake testing charge that had hit him, the Spaniard replied: “Lewis is obviously very intelligent and understands the sport very well and has a lot of experience, but I have more.”
When asked if he was surprised by Hamilton’s comment, the 42-year-old said “Yes and no. We did the same thing in Canada in 2012, so 11 years after that episode we tried to give that DRS to the other driver who was braking for Turn 5. I ended up winning both times, so it’s okay.”
With his 7th place, Alonso secured 4th place in the Drivers’ Championship, behind Hamilton but ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz – in an Aston Martin that in the last two thirds of the year had nothing to do with the protagonist of the first eight games had to do with some lightning.
One of these flares did not occur in Abu Dhabi today, and Alonso commented: “We needed a lot more speed to overtake, we were a bit slow on the straights, which is our weakness all year.” Around lap 16 we made our first pit stop and from then on we knew the race was going to be tough.
In the end our pace was only enough for seventh or eighth place. As I said yesterday, our qualifying lap was very good for the position we ended up winning, but the pace of the race worried us. We saw that today. We were as good as we needed to be to win Alpha Tauri, but that’s not enough”concluded Alonso.

PHOTOGRAPH. Red Bull will finally update its livery. Back to the classics
There are growing rumors in the paddock that Red Bull is preparing to make a radical change to the livery of its car for the first time since 2015.
Ten years ago the Austrians created a design that they use today almost unchanged, with minor adjustments to the layout of elements and changes to the composition of sponsors.
According to multiple sources, the team decided to finally update its look, going back closer in spirit to the first look, inspired by the design of Red Bull energy drink cans. The team itself is already talking about this design on social networks and periodically directs its fans to it.
Let’s remember that the team was supposed to present its new uniform on January 15 at an event in the USA where Ford will also show off the design of the youth team. Due to the difference in time zones, the live broadcast of the event will start at 05:00 Kyiv time.

Red Bull abandoned the radical decision. What is the reason?
Red Bull Ford seems to have decided to slow down with one of the most radical technical solutions on the eve of the start of the new regulations. The concept in question is an engine concept with an extreme 1:18 compression ratio, which is seen as a potential loophole in the regulations.
According to information received from the paddock, this configuration is not planned to be used in tests in Barcelona. The reason is quite ordinary; The risk level is very high. Although engineers expected a noticeable increase in power, at the same time serious doubts were raised about the stability of the engine in racing conditions.
The team fears that relying on aggressive architecture could lead to a wave of power unit failures early in the season. Therefore, the version that Red Bull Ford is ready to move away from this idea altogether, preferring a more balanced and predictable solution, is now increasingly heard.

I won’t wait. Leclerc reveals conditions for leaving Ferrari in 2026
In Formula 1, the 2026 season will start a new technical era in the championship. The teams are preparing for radically changing regulations that will deliver a different car concept, updated aerodynamics and new generation power plants. This is the beginning of such rules, which often becomes a decisive moment not only for sporting results, but also for strategic decisions within teams.
2026 could be a decisive year for Ferrari. After several seasons in which the team regularly lost momentum due to mechanical limitations, Maranello decided to change its approach to the basic concept of the car.
Against this background, Charles Leclerc’s words are becoming increasingly important, according to the Italian publication autoracer.it. The Monegasque openly admitted that the start of the 2026 season will be decisive for his future at Ferrari. According to him, if the team cannot compete at a high level once again, this could put an end to its history of cooperation with Maranello.
Separately, the futures of Lewis Hamilton and team leader Frederic Vasseur are also in danger. For the seven-time world champion, 2026 could be a chance to highlight a new generation of cars that will better suit his driving style.
