How much does each driver’s damage cost in the 2023 Formula 1 season?
Williams’ Logan Sargeant tops the list of the biggest and most expensive damage to his car in the 22 GPs of Formula 1 in 2023, costing his team ten times more money than the bottom of the list, Max Verstappen.
Sargeant’s accidents in his first F1 apprenticeship cost Williams almost €4 million. The fact that Carlos Sainz is in second place on this list is largely due to the accident in the first free practice session in Las Vegas, in which the Spaniard smashed the manhole cover that had come loose from Esteban Ocon’s Alpine pass a few seconds earlier. This damage to the entire floor, engine, battery and other components of the Ferrari SF-23 amounted to almost 2 million euros, according to the Scuderia.
Sergio Perez, on the other hand, caused more than €2.96 million in damage to his Red Bull RB19 as he tried to refine a car that was increasingly designed for driving characteristics after the Miami GP in May. by Max Verstappen. One of the most bitter losses for the Mexican was his accident – the collision with Charles Leclerc – in the first corner of his home race in Mexico City.
On the contrary: with the R19, which he has had in his luggage since the spring, Max Verstappen also found himself at the end of a list for once. The Dutchman was the only rider to finish all races in 2023, winning 19 out of 22, setting unimaginable records that look like they will never be broken.
In the last two decades, only two drivers before Verstappen had managed to finish all races in a season: Michael Schumacher in 2002 and Lewis Hamilton in 2019, who of course dominated their respective championships.
