Sainz: “I needed to finish the job. I wanted one more win before I leave”
Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) declared this Sunday after achieving his fourth career victory. “I needed to get the job done.” “I wanted to get another win.” For now, I’m focused on having fun as I’m not leaving Ferrari, but when ‘another’ opportunity comes along like this weekend, I’ll ‘work towards it’.
“It’s great to meet these fans.”. I felt all their support, they gave me a lot of strength and I needed to get the job done. I’ve said for a long time that I wanted to get one more win before I leave, and to do it here is unbelievable. 4 races left. I want to enjoy it as much as possible, but I’ll go next time.“Sainz explained at the end of the Mexican Grand Prix.”Winning in Mexico was an incredible victory and a unique feelingI feel so loved by my fans, family, and friends. “I really enjoyed the whole race,” he added.
He was therefore unable to prepare for Verstappen’s overtake on lap nine, but said he felt “angry” at losing the lead at the start and used that anger to chase Verstappen. . ”I knew I had to surprise him because it would be difficult to pass him. I had nothing to lose and I was confident in that corner so I went inside,” said Sainz. He was angry at losing his position at the start.. I tried to push with DRS on the first lap and it worked. With Max, you either keep going or you never get past him. Victory tastes even better,” Sainz celebrated.
Tire management is also important. “We did everything we could to get the tires to lap 30. We were first and second, but we expected Max or Lando to be stronger in the final part, so we stuck to that,” Sainz said of his strategy. “I told myself I had to give it my all because it could be my last win with Ferrari.”he added.
Sainz achieved his goal. “I was just realizing all weekend that maybe it was going to be my weekend.. I wanted to do it in front of my whole family because my entire family is there. If I had to choose one more race to win, it would be Mexico,” he concluded.
