The ex -pilot of Formula 1 Nikita Mazepin said he was forced to complete the professional career due to sanctions.
On Friday, within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (PMEF), the session “Sport as a universal language of dialogue” is held.
In October 2024, Mazepin announced the completion of a professional career of a car driver. In 2022, it was included in the list of persons to whom restrictive measures taken by the EU are applied in connection with the situation in Ukraine. This led, in particular, to freezing its funds and a ban on entry into the territory of the EU member states. In March 2024, the European Court of General Jurisdiction decided to cancel the EU sanctions, in September and the Switzerland authorities, sanctions from Mazepine lifted.
– I myself know firsthand about the problems, due to sanctions he was forced to complete his career at the peak. We created a fund, made certain efforts to help athletes, but they are incomparable with the efforts of the Ministry of Sports, ”Mazepin said during the session.
