Cossack champion of Russia in motocross died as a result of an accident in competitions
The Russian Mintocross champion Ruslan Kozub died as a result of injuries received during the competition, according to the website of the Russian motorcycle sport Federation.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the stage of the Russian Championship in motocross with strollers in Irbit (Sverdlovsk Region). During the qualification race in the class of 750 cm³, two crews collided. Despite the efforts of doctors and immediately assisted, Kozub died. He was 32 years old.
The second participant in the incident Alexander Pupyshev was urgently hospitalized in the Central City Hospital of Irbit.
– We closely monitor his condition and pray for his speedy and complete recovery. The Federation provides all the necessary support for providing Alexander with the best medical care, ”said the head of the federation Alexander Dzheus.
Because of the tragic incident, the competition was stopped.
– The main task is now supporting the families of the victims, a comprehensive investigation of the causes and circumstances of the incident in close interaction with law enforcement agencies, ensuring the safety of all participants in the competitive process in the future.
This tragic day is a severe reminder of risks that are inseparable from motorcycle sports, especially in such complex disciplines as motocross with strollers. We are aware of the courage and dedication of our athletes going to the start. The Russian motorcycle sports Federation will do everything possible to help Ruslan’s family in this unbearably difficult time, as well as the Alexander Pupyshev family. We are obliged to extract maximum lessons from this tragedy, ”said Geus.
In 2024, Kozub and Pupyshev became Russian champions in the class 750 cm³.
